Deep Cycle Batteries in Solar and Wind Energy Storage
A cycle, in battery terms, is the full process of discharge (drawing power out) and recharge (restoration to full power).

Deep Cycle batteries are designed to provide longer life performance when continually discharged and recharged than standard automotive batteries. It is important to understand the difference in the type of usage between a deep cycle battery and a standard automotive battery so that you make the right choice for your application.

A standard automotive battery delivers a short burst of energy during the motor start phase and then is recharged by the vehicle's alternator while the engine is running. In theory then, the standard battery should never be fully discharged.

In the case of Solar or Wind generated energy storage, battery charging only occurs when the sun is out or when the wind is blowing but the energy may be required when neither is available. Importantly, deep cycle batteries are designed to go through this type of charge-discharge cycle repeatedly.

A Deep Cycle battery is therefore the best choice whenever steady power is required over a long time.
