Building Measurements
There are only two measurements we require to quote on quantity of material that we require.
You may find the floor area of your building in a number of places such as:
- The site or building plan.
- A Valuation Report.
- Insurance documents.
- Mortgage Documents.
- Resource Consents
We'd like it if you could present the area in M2 [Square Metres] EG. 68.54M2 would be entered as 68.54
The other thing we need is the distance between the floor joists. See image. For this, it's probably best to take a physical measurement. We'd like this measurement to be entered in mm [millimetres]EG. 415mm would be entered as 415, not 0.415 Metres or 41.5cm.
The Under Floor Area
Sometimes referred to a the crawl space. Some older buldings were built very close to the ground while addons were extended over inclines that rendered passage to these extremities impossible. For insulation to be added in such areas it would require excavation to create trenches that would enable our installers to work in. The cost involved in digging these trenches makes insulation not viable.
Ventilation
Contracts applying to buildings that do not have adequate ventilation in the under floor space will not be fulfilled until adequate ventilation is provided and sufficient time has passed to ensure that the enclosed space has been purged of any heavy gasses that may have accumulated.
Excess Charges
We have a standard install rate per M2. Where additional time, above the alloted time, is required to complete the job our hourly rate charge of $45.00 per hour becomes effective. It is important to know when excess charges apply.
- Workspace less than 600mm in height down to an absolute minimum of 450mm incurs excess charges.
- Slopes that are not too steep are uncomfortable to work in but are acceptable as long as our installers do not need to work off ladders. Where ladders are required, work slows down and excess charges apply.
- Pole supported buildings on steep slopes can represent a danger to the installer. Special equipment may be required. The building owner will be liable for all costs associated with the provision of such equipment and the excess rate will apply.
- Wet or damp soils, rubble, stones or other sharp materials may impede the progress. Therefore the excess rate will apply.
- Where general rubbish, debris, stored furniture, equipment or firewood, lengths of timber or metal, or other matter needs to be moved to facilitate access the excess rate will be charged.
- Where household refuse or other unsavory matter is discovered in close proximity to the workarea, all work will immediately cease until the problem is corrected.
Vermin nests are considered unsavory matter and pose a serious health risk to installers from Leptospirosis/Weil’s disease. The bacteria is commonly carried in rats, mice, possums etc and remains live in damp, moist conditions for several weeks. The spiral-shaped bacteria can enter the body through cuts and cracks in the skin or through the eyes, nose or mouth resulting in a flu-like disease.
In many cases the owner is not aware that such problems exist. It is, however, the owner's responsibility to take whatever action is necessary and to inform us when corrective action is complete so that we can reschedule the job.
