For many, the DIY approach can produce savings. However, there is considerable responsibility placed on the supplier to ensure that each system installed meets all applicable regulations. For this reason we do not recommend that the home owner undertake solar hot water installation.

The steps

Once you decide to purchase a solar hot water system for your home it is our responsibility to:

• Ensure that there is sufficient light available to guarantee that it will benefit you.
• Check your building to ensure that the structure will meet the current building code.
• Apply for the building permit.
• Subcontract various trades.
• Complete and test the installation.
• Certify that the installation meets all applicable standards.

The only part of the installation that is not critical is the assembly of the frame. You may request, at the time of ordering, to undertake the assembly. This task may take several hours, perhaps 4 or more. However our trained installers regularly perform this task in approximately 1 1/2 hours.

When you undertake to assemble the frame yourself you agree that you indemnify us against any injury you may suffer as a result of your decision. The frame assembly manual applicable to your unit contains information about safety and handling precautions. This information may not cover every circumstance but that does not release you from your agreement. We strongly advise you not to undertake this task yourself.
